Two simple sentences
Last night an angel flew
away from me
forever.
She had reminded me how to love again,
so many years late.. (r?)
the hyper-alert, angrily-defensive thickly-armored creature
that I had been forced to (d)evolve into.
After a while, colors began to have meaning again
and seemed somehow that much brighter
now with her around.
Music again became something superior
to simply that much perma-looped, overly-processed
general arbitrary noise
pimped to sell records, the latest “blockbuster” movie,
or some other bullshit hyped-up, glitzy merchandise.
Or perhaps simply an overly-marketed means to shock
the general population.
I came to find the color
that mattered uniquely most
was the incredibly pure blue
in and of her eyes.
The only music that I hear now
are the fading melodies of her rapidly-receding angelic voice.
Fate somehow granted us
that oft-yearned for second chance,
very mid to later,
somewhere along the side of Life’s highway.
Looking back, she made much more of
that second chance than I..
yet another on my growing list of regrets.
Two simple sentences
I never found the courage to utter
even at the end
as she was silently rocketing away
from this tortuous plane of existence.
The much-too-late realization of HER plight
slowly gripping and crushing me,
like the steely, cold coils of some mythic constrictor
or the frigid, inky depths
of an immense ancient ocean.
The colors are gone now.
The notes have faded—
even the haphazard cacophonous noise
has fallen silent.
I find myself
(or some portions of a facsimile)
in this darkness
alone.
There is nothing left but battle now,
away from this hollow, painful void.
I must fight my way to some other place
with warmth and colors,
and possibly even music.
I do not enter this fray entirely alone however—
I go accompanied by an exceedingly-loving,
if somewhat dim-witted dog.
She always means well though,
even sometimes when she is being an overly-excited, absent-minded “bad” dog in that timeslice.
Observing now from this barren, craggy escarpment,
I am beginning to convince myself
that I was mostly able to tell the Angel
everything that mattered—
save..
